What We Do
Full List of Services
SEND currently offer delivery of the following services:
Workshops
The appeal of music and arts often proves to be a popular choice but workshops are a great way of testing the water with a group of young people.
SEND can deliver workshops in the individual subject areas, or as a multiple subject workshop. Our subject areas are Digital Music Production, DJing, MCing, Breakdance, Graffiti Art and Film making / editing.
This may be as an extra curricular activity, as a one off or short series of workshops. It may be a taster session for an accredited course or longer series of workshops.
In either instance SEND can provide a workshop to suit your requirements.
Past examples include a digital music workshop for a community event at Nottingham Forest Football Club, a graffiti workshop for the Framework Academy and a DJ workshop for Sneinton Hermitage community centre. These sessions usually run in 2-3 hour blocks and are a general overview of the subject area.
The workshops are a good way of getting young people to explore new creative avenues. We encourage young people to use creativity to stimulate their learning. If the young people want to take it further we can signpost them in the right direction.
It is possible that SEND can deliver a structured course based on a group interest.
An important aspect of all our work, especially within the workshops, is an emphasis on soft targets. These can be used to engage, inspire and focus the young people. A few examples of our soft target areas include:
Planning
Creativity
Confidence
Self-esteem
Positive learning
Listening
Feedback
Negotiation & compromise
Motivation

Bespoke Projects
Following a number of well documented success stories with hard to reach young people, Send have been approached by a number of key agencies, namely schools, PRU and prisons across the Midlands region to develop and deliver a range of bespoke projects.
As our working partnerships attest, one of our key strengths is our commitment to consistently developing our pool of dedicated, talented, professional and colourful tutors. Our tutors range from classically trained musicians to street rappers from all different walks of life, many of whom first hand have had to overcome challenging obstacles. As a result we are able to empathise with the young people we work with and facilitate deep-seated change in their behaviour and outlook through the creative force of music.
Many of the projects we have developed, either delivered as a one off workshop or as a week on week structured programme of learning, have been created to support whole school programmes to confront and overcome issues of racism and bullying. We bring to light how music and creative art can help to engage young people, unearth hidden talents, improve confidence and self-esteem and create a ‘can do’ and sharing environment.
Through creativity – the writing of lyrics and the learning of digital music arrangements – the sharing of ideas and experiences either in a group or one to one setting, have enabled many participants to flourish and express themselves in a positive, passionate and creative manner.
We pride ourselves on taking the time to really get to know the young people we work with. Through the challenging experiences and difficulties we ourselves have had to overcome, we are perceived as positive role models. We can inspire young people to see that mistakes can be overcome and transformed into positive learning experiences, that people do move on and pick up the pieces. This in essence makes the difference.

The OCN course has been designed and accredited by the SEND team to provide the maximum breadth of experience of music technology within the boundaries of a level 1 award and the number of guided learning hours available.
The Arts Award is a learner centred holistic qualification which allows the student to choose their own arts interests, giving them the freedom to pursue a raft of arts experiences whilst developing analytical and communication skills. This award is can be followed up to level 2 and is restricted to the under 25s.
The NCFE Music Technology course consists of a variety of specialist modules that can be completed independently to build into a recognised qualification. Credits are valid for 5 years and so the learner is able to progress at their own rate. The QA systems necessary to validate this award are provided through our partners at StoneSoup.
